Remembering the Past, Melly Goeslaw Just Blinking Already Got a New House and Car

As known, Melly is a very popular hit-maker. Her songs are still legendary until now, such as Jika, Ada Apa Dengan Cinta?, Tegar, Menghitung Hari, and many others.

"Now the income from ring back tones is very small. Especially digital platforms. The ones that can still be relied on are YouTube and karaoke, but not as big as imagined," said Melly in an exclusive interview with Liputan6.com recently.

1. Blink Becomes a New House and Car

During its heyday, Melly never had difficulty in finding money. Her works were always popular in the market, even used for soundtracks of various feature films. It's no wonder she eventually earned the title of Soundtrack Queen.

"The brightest year for me was when the ring back tone exploded. That was the era of songs like Jika, Gantung, and Ketika Cinta Bertasbih. It's like I just blinked and got a new house and car," she continued.

2. Success of MELLY Album

Melly Goeslaw mentioned that most established music groups like Potret or Gigi only release albums to prolong their existence. However, their main income still comes from off-air performances in various cities. In the past, musicians could already prosper just from selling cassettes and CDs.

"During that time, I could buy a house and car with just a blink of an eye. Especially during the era of the MELLY album, cassette stores even put up announcements that the MELLY album was sold out. It was really crazy," said the musician born in Jakarta on January 7, 1974.
