Starting from Covering Wahyu Selow's Song, Mahen Invited to Record with a Famous Music Label

Kapanlagi.com - Singer Petrus Mahendra, or commonly known as Mahen, talks about his career journey in the Indonesian music industry. Mahen was initially known as a cover singer. The 27-year-old singer regularly uploaded his cover works on the Soundcloud application.

"I used to use Soundcloud because I wasn't confident enough to show my face," Mahen said during his visit to the KLY office in Gondangdia, Central Jakarta, on Wednesday (15/5/2024).

Due to his good vocal talent, the singer who graduated from Bunda Mulia University started to gain popularity among many people. It was proven that he gained many followers directly from the Soundcloud application.

"Every cover I uploaded would get a thousand followers," he said.

1. Do Research First

It's not just a random cover, Mahen does research first before singing other people's songs. Mahen said that usually he covers other people's works when the song is being widely listened to.

"I do my own research on songs that are happening or songs that will become popular. At that time, I covered the song Wahyu Selow," said Mahen.

Mahen is quite confident that the covered song uploaded to Soundcloud will be listened to by many people. And it's true, when he sang the song "Selow" again, Mahen received positive feedback from the listeners. In fact, because of that song, he immediately caught the attention of a famous record label, Indo Semar Records.

"I already predicted it would be big, but I didn't expect it to be this big. My expectations were shattered because I was given an even bigger opportunity," Mahen concluded.

2. Soaring Higher

Now, Mahen's name is increasingly soaring after releasing a number of songs, such as "Pura Pura Lupa" to "Seiman Tak Seiman". Not wanting to stop, Mahen continues to present his works.

The latest, he released an album titled "Chapter 1.5". Mahen is happy because the album that has been prepared since November 2023 can now be heard by the wider community.

"I'm really happy to be given the opportunity to work again and the process is not short, it takes a lot of time. Like vocal mixing mastering. That's why I'm happy to be given that opportunity," Mahen concluded.
