The Panturas Present Sundanese Music Vibe Through Mini Album 'Galura Tropikalia'

Kapanlagi.com - The Panturas are back with their latest work that will bring fans into the atmosphere of typical Sundanese music. This mini album titled 'Galura Tropikalia' was officially released on November 22, 2024, on various digital platforms. This album is their independent project under the label Los Panturas Ent.

This album offers a new experience with six songs, all of which have lyrics written in Sundanese. The music presented is rich with traditional touches from the Pasundan region. The members, namely Surya Fikri (drums), Bagus 'Gogon' (bass), Rizal Taufik (guitar), and Abyan 'Acin' (guitar, vocals), admitted to enjoying the exploration during the creative process.

1. Bringing Music to Cultural Roots

Surya Fikri, or affectionately called Kuya, revealed that this album is an opportunity to bring their music closer to their cultural roots.

"We discovered many new things, and the biggest thing is bringing this music closer to the land of Pasundan," said Kuya in an interview on Friday (November 9, 2024).

2. Challenges of Lyric Writing

The process of writing lyrics presents its own challenges, considering that the Sundanese language has a fairly high level of complexity. Nevertheless, Rizal feels aided by his childhood memories filled with Sundanese cultural elements, such as jampi and pupuh. Armed with that nostalgia, they write lyrics by following their hearts.

One of the songs on this album is Jimat, which is a collaboration with Doel Sumbang, the legendary Sundanese pop musician. Additionally, they also arranged the classic song Talak Tilu by Kosman Jaya, which was previously popularized by Upit Sarimanah. Both of these songs provide a nostalgic yet modern atmosphere.

3. Assisted by Ricky Virgana

This 21-minute mini album features Ricky Virgana (WSATCC) as a producer, bringing a touch of 70s to 80s disco pop. They also collaborated with Om Robo (Sundancer) as a guitar mentor and other collaborating musicians, such as Panji Wisnu (keyboard/synth) and Rezki Delian (percussion). The song Bentang Sagara even pays tribute to Indonesian pop music from the LCLR era of 1978.

"Fortunately, the writing and production of this song were assisted by Ricky Virgana, who is indeed skilled in that area. We sought a middle ground between disco music and the muddy guitar style of The Panturas," said Kuya.

4. Plans for Tour and Showcase

To promote Galura Tropikalia, The Panturas have released two singles, Lasut Nyanggut and Jimat, along with their music videos. They also plan to hold a tour and showcase in various cities, even hoping to bring this music to the international stage. With this album, The Panturas hope to unite their fans despite language differences.
