Kapanlagi.com - The Panturas, a contemporary surf rock band from Jatinangor, is once again enlivening the Indonesian music scene by releasing their latest single titled “Lasut Nyanggut” on October 4, 2024. This song can be enjoyed on various digital streaming platforms (DSP) and serves as the first step toward their mini album to be released in November 2024 through La Munai Records.
“Lasut Nyanggut” is a song written by Surya Fikri, also known as Kapten Kuya, the drummer of The Panturas. The title is taken from the Sundanese language, meaning “failed to catch,” telling a folk tale about a fisherman who continuously fails to catch fish and only ends up with trash. When he seeks help from supernatural beings, he ends up with a ghostly spirit, or trash demon. This story symbolizes a struggle that remains unsuccessful, yet is still pursued with conviction.
Previously, the song “Lasut Nyanggut” was released in a 7” vinyl format in 2020. However, this time, the song comes with a new touch, especially in the instruments used. The Panturas also collaborated with several musicians to enrich the musical arrangement.
“This is the first collaboration of Panturas with Ricky Virgana as producer,” said vocalist Abyan, also known as Acin, in an interview on October 2, 2024, in Bandung.
Moreover, the magical element is also enhanced through collaborations with various musicians. “After the recording was done in my hometown, Tanjung Sari, there was a friend who could play the trumpet named Muis, so we just took it right away. "Of course, there is also Koh Eki (percussion) and Panji (keyboard)," added Acin, explaining the recording process that took place in his hometown.

Bringing Sundanese lyrics, The Panturas incorporate strong local cultural elements in this single, blending traditional elements with a touch of modern music. “Lasut Nyanggut” presents a new challenge for The Panturas, exploring musical nuances they have not tackled before. Although using a regional language, the band is optimistic that their work can still be enjoyed by listeners from various backgrounds.
The Panturas' musical exploration in the upcoming album is also deepening with the help of Ricky Virgana as producer and Om Robo (Southern Beach Terror/Sundancer) as a spiritual guitar mentor. This extensive collaboration showcases The Panturas' determination to continue expanding their musical horizons while upholding the local cultural identity that inspires them.
Despite the boldness of their experiments, The Panturas remain optimistic about listener responses. “We just hope to be considered cool,” said Acin with a laugh.
He added that they only want to channel the pure musical desires of each band member, while still hoping their work can be accepted by a wide audience and become a hit.
With the release of “Lasut Nyanggut,” The Panturas are getting closer to the launch of their latest mini album titled Galura Tropikalia, which is scheduled for release in November 2024. This single provides an early glimpse of the new musical direction that The Panturas will present in their explorative works.
