Viral Song 'Lathi', Will Weird Genius Collaborate with Yellow Claw?

Kapanlagi.com - Good news comes from the Indonesian music scene. Weird Genius, one of the EDM music groups consisting of Reza Oktovian (Reza Arap), Eka Gustiwana, and Gerald Liu, is rumored to collaborate with international musician, Yellow Claw.

The song titled Lathi, which was released in early May 2020, suddenly went viral. Even on YouTube, it has been watched by more than 20 million people.

Eka Gustiwana, one of the members of Weird Genius, expressed his happiness that their song could be accepted by many people and even reached the top of the charts.

"First of all, we are happy because our song is not the mainstream type, not the type of song that is often heard by Indonesians. Our song has electronic elements, traditional elements, and it's not something that people usually listen to. So for us, it's a surprise to be at the top of the charts, used by people on TikTok, it's a big surprise for us," said Eka Gustiwana when contacted by phone on Saturday (23/5/2020).

1. Reasons Why This Song Can Go Viral

In less than a month, this song has been listened to by millions of people, even receiving reactions from YouTubers from abroad. As one of the song composers, Eka Gustiwana explained why this song can go viral in the world. 

"In my opinion, maybe because some people need new music, something they haven't heard before, so when our music appears, for those who are not fans of electronic music or Weird Genius fans, it becomes something unique that they enjoy," he said.

2. Collaborating with Yellow Claw

Apparently, this song Lathi has reached the ears of one of the Dutch EDM musicians, Yellow Claw. And according to Eka, Weird Genius and Yellow Claw are currently discussing some things. 

"Yes, we are currently discussing something with Yellow Claw. But I can't say what it is yet. Just wait and see," said Eka Gustiwana. 

3. A Matter of Pride

Nevertheless, Eka Gustiwana himself still cannot tell much about their meeting with Yellow Claw. What is clear is that he is very happy that his work has been noticed by a world musician. "It is a matter of pride for us to be noticed by Yellow Claw, especially since we are from Indonesia and getting attention from people outside. We are happy," he explained.
