Bontang City Government Receives Proklim 2023 from the Ministry of Environment and Forestry, a Commitment to Environmental Sustainability

This time, the Bontang City Government successfully won the 2023 Climate Program (Proklim) award from the Ministry of Environment and Forestry on Tuesday (24/10/2023) at the Auditorium DR.Soejdarwo Gedung Manggala Wanabakti KLHK, Jakarta. The award was directly presented by the Minister of Environment and Forestry, Siti Nurbaya, to the Mayor of Bontang City, Basri Rase.

Basri said that the appreciation given by KLHK can motivate all stakeholders to be more concerned about the climate. He also mentioned that through the 2023 Proklim award, it further proves that the Bontang City Government is very concerned about the environment.

"In addition, with the existence of ProKlim, what we are doing becomes a result that we hope for together, namely the reduction of greenhouse gas effects and global warming," he said.

"This motivates us to continue to promote environmental issues so that the development we do is beneficial for us, without forgetting the environmental aspects," explained Basri.

He also revealed that in Proklim 2023, the Bontang City Government only registered one sub-district, namely Gunung Telihan Sub-district. However, he emphasized that next year there will be additional proposed sub-districts.

"Next year we will add more, because there are several areas that have the potential to receive this award, but we did not include them this year," Basri said.

Function of the Environmental Forum

Basri explained that in Bontang, there is an environmental forum that focuses on climate change mitigation. He mentioned that in the forum, all companies operating in Bontang are involved.

"The environmental forum has significantly increased, because previously, when I first became mayor, only two received ProKlim in Bontang City, in the second year it became 4, now there are 7, we are sharing about the commitment of companies in terms of green energy and the environment," he said.

"The environmental forum also focuses on decarbonization which is advocated by the government. In the environmental forum, we are trying to form carbon companies that are very beneficial for circular energy," Basri added.

Consistent Budgeting on Environmental Aspects

In addition, he also emphasized that the Bontang City government consistently implements budget policies that focus on environmental aspects.

"I am consistent in budgeting, that's why yesterday I was awarded green leadership because of our environmental policies, and our budget politics towards the environment, including synergy with companies," Basri said firmly.

"Therefore, I express my gratitude to all stakeholders who collaborate and collaborate in order to make Bontang a city with a good environment and how to shelter it as an industrial city, but an environmentally based industry," he explained.

Support from the Bontang City Government for the Climate Village Program

In the same opportunity, Lurah Gunung Telihan, Mochamad Cholid Hanafi expressed his appreciation to the Bontang City government for all its support so that Telihan Village became the Main Nominee I in the Proklim 2023 program. He also mentioned that the Bontang City government consistently supports all programs carried out in Telihan related to the Climate Village program.

"We express our gratitude to the mayor for his support, and for the Head of the Environmental Agency and his staff, as well as companies that always support the development of the climate village so that it can become the main nominee in the Proklim 2023," he said.

"The Bontang City government strongly supports all the programs we run, so that we can achieve the targets or achievements and several assessment instruments," Cholid explained.

He also hopes that Gunung Telihan Village can become a Sustainable Proklim in the next year. In addition, Cholid also hopes that the community can benefit from the actions, adaptations, and mitigations carried out by Gunung Telihan Village.

"I hope that the community can benefit from the actions, adaptations, and mitigations in climate change so as not to cause significant changes, both economically, socially, health-wise, and things related to food security, economic sufficiency, and the decent condition of the community in this climate change," he concluded.
