Cinemas Will Resume Operations Starting July 29, 2020, Here's Why They're Not Rushing to Open

Kapanlagi.com - Head of the Tourism and Creative Economy Agency, Cucu Ahmad Kurnia, issued a Decree regarding the extension of the first phase of the Large-Scale Social Restrictions (PSBB) transition. It stated the permission for cinema entertainment businesses to resume operations with the detailed conditions.

Therefore, Djonny Syafruddin, Chairman of the Indonesian Cinema Management Association (GPBSI), said that it takes time to reopen. It may take 3 weeks until it can be fully implemented.

"Regarding the implementation of the new normal protocols in the cinema environment, all cinema entrepreneurs need two to three weeks to prepare for the implementation of the intended health protocols," said Johnny, as quoted from the official statement to the media on Tuesday (7/7/2020).

Therefore, cinema entrepreneurs who are members of GPBSI including Cinema XXI, CGV, Dakota Cinema, Cinepolis, Platinum, and New Star Cineplex have agreed to open cinemas on July 29, 2020.

"Thus, cinema industry players have discussed and agreed to resume operational activities starting from Wednesday, July 29, 2020, simultaneously throughout Indonesia," added Jhonny.

2. Preparation for the New Normal Protocol

Furthermore, it is explained that the available time before the cinema opens will be used as follows:

1. Preparation of communication and socialization materials for the implementation of the New Normal Protocol in the cinema environment.

2. Education and internal training processes related to the New Normal Protocol in the cinema environment for all employees on duty.

3. Communication with production houses regarding film readiness and promotional materials that will be conducted after the cinema resumes operations.
