Kapanlagi.com - An attempted robbery at an ATM (Anjungan Tunai Mandiri) in Bank Mandiri, Malang City, was successfully thwarted by security personnel. The perpetrator fled the scene after engaging in a physical altercation with the security personnel.
Malang City Police Chief, Commissioner Pol Leonardus Simamarta, stated that the perpetrator pointed a pistol at the security personnel. The perpetrator fired three shots, hitting one of the ATM's glass walls.
"Three shots. Two towards the ATM. One towards the security guard. After firing, the perpetrator fled to his motorcycle. His accomplice was already waiting there, and they left," said Leo at the Malang City Police Station on Tuesday (1/9).

At that time, a technician accompanied by security was repairing an ATM on Kawi Street, Malang City. Suddenly, someone came and pointed a pistol, which was immediately resisted by the security.
The ATM itself was indeed in a damaged condition because it was being repaired by a technician accompanied by a security guard.
Evidence was collected by conducting a crime scene investigation after the incident on Monday (31/8) night. The police checked the CCTV and interviewed witnesses around the location who were suspected of hearing and knowing about the incident. A projectile was found at the scene.
"One (projectile) has been secured and we will re-examine the crime scene with the forensic laboratory," Leo said.
Leo admitted that he couldn't determine the exact motive of the perpetrator yet, so further investigation is still needed. There were no victims in the incident.
Preliminary suspicion is that there were two perpetrators using a two-wheeled vehicle. One perpetrator got off the vehicle and carried out the action, while the other waited on the vehicle.
"We will also investigate the crime scene involving the East Java Regional Police Forensic Laboratory to determine the type of weapon and ammunition used," he added.

Leo also promised to give an award for the resistance action carried out by the security guard. The action is a form of community participation in assisting the police in creating a secure environment.
"This is the participation of the community, especially the neighborhood watch. This is the role of the neighborhood watch in assisting police tasks to thwart violent theft acts," he explained.
Area Head of Bank Mandiri Malang, Pitra Dwi Yuniyanto, said that the attempted robbery occurred when technicians accompanied by security personnel from the vendor were repairing ATM problems. However, the security personnel managed to thwart the attempt and the perpetrator fled using a motorcycle.
"Because there were suspicious movements, the security personnel immediately approached and the person instantly pulled out a weapon and shot towards the ATM," explained Pitra.
The ATM was damaged with a broken glass door, but the money inside remained safe. Meanwhile, the ATM is still marked by police tape in a circular manner.
"We have coordinated with the police, and we will collaborate to uncover the case," he said.
