Kapanlagi.com - Piracy in Indonesia has now reached a concerning level and is detrimental to the country. In recent years, the wave of content piracy has reached a worrying level and has hindered various digital economic sectors.

The Indonesian Video Streaming Association (AVISI), supported by TSurvey by Telkomsel, has conducted its first survey with the aim of exploring the "Public Perception of Piracy in Indonesia".

The survey involved 1,000 respondents with specific criteria, namely mobile video streaming enthusiasts, smartphone users, residents of major cities, and aged 20-60 years during September 2023.

The survey results revealed that 81% of respondents are aware of the negative impacts of using illegal content, including malware, viruses, and data leaks. Meanwhile, 81% of respondents also realize that the spread of pirated content has a negative impact on the creative industry in Indonesia.

1. Collaboration with the Government

The survey and research conducted by AVISI is fully supported by the government. This was directly conveyed by the Director General of Informatics Applications, Kominfo, Samuel Abrijani Pangarepan.

"The government supports AVISI, the streaming industry, and the film industry to continue to help restrict access to illegal content. This effort is very important in supporting the growth of the creative industry and digital economy in Indonesia," he said.

2. Must be Accompanied by Public Awareness

Nirwan Lesmana, Chairman of AVISI's Supervisory Board and VP Digital Lifestyle Telkomsel, emphasized that the growth of the digital sector in Indonesia must be accompanied by an increase in public awareness in accessing legal content.

"This survey was conducted to determine the perception of the Indonesian people regarding content piracy. The research results show that education about the risks of piracy is starting to exist, but changes in public behavior still need to occur. The survey will continue to support AVISI in conducting fast and sustainable online enforcement so that piracy can be continuously monitored periodically," said Nirwan.

The threat of content piracy has had a significant impact on the economy. The creative and entertainment industry in Indonesia, which should be a strong economic pillar, continues to experience significant revenue decline due to content piracy. This harms economic growth and creates negative impacts on employment in this country.

3. Illegal Content Poses Security Risks

Meanwhile, Matthew Cheetam, General Manager of the Asia Video Industry Association, emphasized that accessing pirated or illegal content poses significant risks to consumer security.

"AVIA is committed to continuing to support AVISI's efforts in educating the Indonesian public about the importance of consuming legal content. The goal is to protect consumer data security, support the growth of the creative industry, and help reduce piracy incidents in Indonesia," he concluded.
