Kapanlagi.com - The forest and land fire (Karhutla) in the Mount Arjuno area has been ongoing since Saturday (26/8) and the extinguishing process is still ongoing until now. According to the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) on Friday (8/9), the affected area of Tahura R Soerjo due to Karhutla reached 4,796 hectares.

As a result of this fire, the habitat where wildlife survives has been burned down. What's even more heartbreaking, dead animals were found due to the flames around the slopes of Mount Arjuno.

A burned deer was found among the debris of the forest and land fire in the Mount Arjuno area. When found, the deer, estimated to be still a fawn, was already burned among the fire debris.

1. A Deer Found Dead in Forest Fires

A deer carcass was found by volunteers and residents around the slopes of Mount Arjuno, in the Tahura R Soerjo area. The deer's body was found during a search in the aftermath of the fire around Mount Ringgit, specifically on the west side of Sumber Air Putuk Bunder, Prigen District, Pasuruan Regency.

"Its body was already burnt, it seems to be a young one. One deer was found dead," said Dion, one of the Satu Daun volunteers quoted on Monday (11/9).

Rosek Nursahid, the Founder of Profauna Indonesia, said that an audit of the wildlife that died as a result of forest fires in the Mount Arjuno area cannot be conducted yet. Because the fires are still ongoing and have not been fully extinguished.

"For now, the only one that has been detected physically is a deer. But since the fire spots are still being monitored, we cannot determine the number of dead animals yet," said Rosek Nursahid to reporters on Monday (11/9).

2. Other Animals in Tahura R Soerjo

Tahura R Soerjo itself is a natural conservation area that serves as a home for protected wildlife. The area is a habitat for animals such as Javan Hawk, Leopard, Javan Langur, Long-tailed Macaque, Deer, and others.

"There are also hundreds of bird species, and the most rare one is the Javan Hawk. The Javan Hawk is an animal that is synonymous with the emblem of the Republic of Indonesia. That's the one threatened with extinction," he said.
