Liputan6.com Receives Global Fact-Check Fund 'ENGAGE' from IFCN, Encourages Gen Z to Combat Hoaxes

Kapanlagi.com - Liputan6.com is one of the winners of the third phase Global Fact Check Fund or 'ENGAGE' grant on March 1, 2024, from the International Fact-Checking Network (IFCN). In addition to Liputan6.com, there are 20 fact-checking organizations from four continents that received a total funding of US$ 2 million.

IFCN Director, Angie Drobnic Holan, explained that the grant was given to enhance the capacity and sustainability of fact-checking institutions. To be able to withstand all challenges, continue to innovate, and increase audience engagement and stakeholder involvement at the local and regional levels.

The spread of misinformation and disinformation is increasingly challenging to combat, with the emergence of generative artificial intelligence. The conduct of elections in several countries also leads to the rapid spread of hoaxes like mushrooms in the rainy season.

1. Will Focus on the Young Generation

The proposed projects from the selected 20 institutions are believed to strengthen the global fact-checking network, which is essential to combat dangerous hoaxes. "The accepted proposals suggest innovative and impactful fact-checking projects that will bring positive changes to the world," said Angie.

Overall, IFCN has allocated US$12 million from the Global Fact Check Fund, a grant provided by Google and YouTube. There are three funding phases: BUILD, GROW, and ENGAGE.

One of the proposed projects, the Anti-Hoax Zeneration Project by Liputan6.com, will focus on the young generation so they can fight against increasingly sophisticated hoaxes. We will also collaborate with various parties to introduce several innovations in an effort to improve the information ecosystem in Indonesia.
