Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman was once a topic of discussion in Indonesia when he was elected as the youngest minister in the history of the federal government of Malaysia in 2018. Unfortunately, Syed Saddiq only served as the Minister of Youth and Sports of Malaysia for less than two years. Long time no hear, how is Syed Saddiq now?
Syed Saddiq ended his term as the Minister of Youth and Sports of Malaysia on February 24, 2020, at the age of 28.
Although no longer serving as a minister, Syed Saddiq is still a member of parliament in the Muar constituency. He is also continuing his education and business ventures.
Last July there was unpleasant news about Syed Saddiq. He was involved in a money laundering case amounting to 100,000 ringgit or equivalent to Rp 340 million. Syed Saddiq was charged under Section 4(1) of the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001.
If proven guilty, Syed Saddiq faces a maximum sentence of 15 years in prison or a fine five times the amount of money laundering he is accused of.
On August 5, 2021, Syed Saddiq denied the allegations of money laundering against him in the trial at the Johor Bahru Court.
Despite being currently embroiled in a corruption case, Syed Saddiq has not stopped his activities in helping the community in need. Especially during this pandemic.
Support from the Malaysian public is still being received by Syed Saddiq. It can be seen from the comments asking him to continue fighting. Some also believe that this case was deliberately fabricated by the government.
