1. Meaning of Tabligh

Tabligh is one of the obligatory qualities possessed by Prophet Muhammad. The word tabligh comes from the Arabic language. Generally, the meaning of tabligh is to convey. It means conveying the revelations from Allah to mankind without any concealment or hiding.

The quality of tabligh possessed by the Prophet can be seen in the Quran, Surah Al-Maidah verse 6, which means as follows.

"O Messenger! Convey what has been revealed to you from your Lord. And if you do not do it, then you have not conveyed His message. And Allah will protect you from the people. Indeed, Allah does not guide the disbelieving people." (Q.S. Al-Maidah: 67)

2. Other Obligatory Qualities of Prophet Muhammad

As previously mentioned, tabligh is only one of the four mandatory qualities of the Prophet Muhammad.That means besides tabligh, there are still three other qualities of the Prophet Muhammad.So, besides the meaning of tabligh, it is also important to know the meaning of the other three qualities of the Prophet Muhammad so that we can emulate them.Here are the three mandatory qualities of the Prophet Muhammad besides tabligh.

1) Sidiq

Siddiq is the term for the quality of the Prophet Muhammad as someone who always speaks the truth and is honest.The Prophet Muhammad never tells lies.What he conveys to his people all comes from Allah SWT.The siddiq quality of the Prophet Muhammad is depicted in a passage from Surah Maryam verse 41, which reads as follows.

"And relate the story of Ibrahim in the Book (the Qur'an), indeed he was a man of truthfulness and a prophet." (Q.S. Maryam: 41)

2) Amanah

The next quality of the Prophet Muhammad is amanah.The amanah quality means trustworthy.Because of this quality, the Prophet Muhammad was given the title al-amin or the trustworthy person.The amanah quality of the Prophet Muhammad is mentioned in Surah Ash-Shu'ara, verses 105-106, which means as follows.

"When their brother (Nuh) said to them, 'Why do you not fear Allah?' Indeed, I am a trustworthy messenger (sent) to you."
(Q.S.Ash-Shu'ara: 106-107)

3) Fathonah

The fourth and final mandatory quality of the Prophet Muhammad is fathonah.In general, fathonah means intelligence.With this quality, the Prophet Muhammad was able to guide his people to the right path without forcing or fighting them. The nature of fathonah is among them is found in Surah Al An'am verse 83 which says as follows.

"And that is Our argument which We gave to Ibrahim to face his people." (QS Al An'am: 83)

3. The Meaning of Tabligh in Another Sense

In addition to being known as one of the obligatory characteristics of Prophet Muhammad, the meaning of tabligh has also expanded. Broadly speaking, tabligh is now known as one of the activities of propagation or preaching in the Islamic religion. This is still in line with the meaning of tabligh as the obligatory characteristic of Prophet Muhammad, who conveys without hiding anything.

In this context, tabligh is one of the noble deeds that will be rewarded with goodness. However, it should be noted that tabligh cannot be done arbitrarily. There are several things that must be considered in carrying out tabligh. One of them is prohibited from forcing the will, especially on non-Muslims, to believe or even convert to Islam.

This is as stated in the following verse of the Quran:

"Indeed, you cannot guide whom you like, but Allah guides whom He wills. And He is most knowing of the [rightly] guided." (Quran, Surah Al-Qashash, verse 56).
