World Oral Health Day is Coming, Let's Become #SmileHeroes and Nominate Your School

This is constantly emphasized by the World Dental Federation through the World Oral Health Day (WOHD) which falls on March 20th. 

1. Unique Facts about the Birth of WOHD

Initially, the World Oral Health Day was initiated on September 12th, 2007. This date was chosen to commemorate the birthday of FDI founder, Dr. Charles Godon. However, the campaign for the importance of maintaining dental health was eventually changed to March 20th to avoid conflict with the World Dental Congress held in September.

Interestingly, March 20th is said to have its own meaning. In addition to reflecting the total of 20 natural teeth that the elderly and children who fall into the healthy category have, adults have a total of 32 teeth, which is translated as 3/20, or March 20th.

2. Theme of WOHD 2020

According to its official website, FDI highlights the increasing number of children experiencing dental problems which can lead to future health issues. In 2020, FDI uses transformative power to demonstrate how to take care of the mouth and body. Intending to create positive change, it requires effort from everyone to address dental and oral health problems.
