Covid-19 in India Goes Crazy, Bollywood Artists and Tycoons Flee - Willing to Pay Hundreds of Millions for Private Jet Rent

These conglomerates and wealthy artists are flying to various countries, mostly to Europe, the Middle East, specifically Dubai, and resorts in the Maldives.

"Not only the super wealthy. Anyone who can afford a private plane, (fly) with a private plane," said Rajan Mehra, CEO of Club Air One, which provides private plane rental services in New Delhi.

1. Artists Fleeing

Reported, several Bollywood stars have chosen to escape the surge of corona in their country. Without mentioning names, Rajan revealed that most Bollywood artists choose to go to the Maldives.

In addition, Australian cricket players have also chosen to return to their country. Their destinations vary, but many have chosen Canada, Hong Kong, the UAE, and the UK, which have subsequently imposed entry bans for Indian citizens.

"There was a significant surge to London and Dubai just before the restrictions were imposed. And also the Maldives, before they announced the entry ban," said Mehra.

2. Escaping Costs

To be able to fly abroad, artists and conglomerates have to spend a considerable amount of money. The average cost is 1.5 million Rupees or around Rp 290 million.

This cost includes handling on the ground and other expenses. Some also have to pay for round trips if there are no passengers from the destination country returning to India.

3. Surging Cases

Currently, India is experiencing a massive surge in coronavirus cases. In a day, there can be 352,991 cases, which is the highest daily infection rate during the pandemic.

To prevent further spread, local governments in India have implemented local lockdowns. Starting from Karnataka, Maharashtra, and Delhi, all have imposed area closures with varying strictness.
