The passing of Hotma Sitompul brought deep sorrow to the family, but also left a valuable legacy that cannot be measured by material means. His son, Ditho Hasian Sitompul, stated that his father left behind four important things that cannot be touched physically, but are very valuable to his family.
"I want to share a little, Mr. Hotma has left behind things that cannot be valued with money. Many people think of inheritance as material, but for us the greatest inheritance is the intangible asset, a legacy that cannot be touched. There are four things, about faith, about leadership, about his service," said Ditho after the burial of Hotma Sitompul at San Diego Hills Memorial Park, Karawang, Saturday (19/4/2025).
One tangible form of the legacy of Hotma Sitompul is the establishment of LBH Mawar Saron, which has been active since 2002 in providing legal assistance to the poor and underprivileged. "I believe this legacy will continue to be fought for," added Ditho.
Philipus Sitepu, as the family spokesperson, also emphasized Hotma's important role in the legal world. "Mr. Hotma founded LBH Mawar Saron in 2002 and has provided legal assistance to the poor... tens of thousands have been helped," he said.
For Ditho, his father's leadership is a combination of firmness and gentleness. "Papa's leadership is actually firm, but gentle... we also obey. So for us, we are very grateful to have a father like Mr. Hotma," said Ditho.
He also expressed confidence that his children will follow in their grandfather's footsteps. "I believe my children can grow up and become capable of following in their grandfather's footsteps," he said.
According to Ditho, carrying on a legacy is not just a theory. He emphasizes the importance of providing direct examples within the family. "Explaining to children is... easiest not through words but through actions. Because we practice it as an example," he said.
Ditho also reaffirmed his family's commitment to continue his father's struggle to help more people.
