Al Ghazali Speaks Out About His Daughter's Name That Became a Subject of Jokes

The couple Al Ghazali and Alyssa Daguise have just welcomed the arrival of their first daughter, Soleil Zephora Ghazali, on Sunday (10/5/2026). However, in the midst of this happy atmosphere, the name of their child has become a topic of conversation and jokes among netizens on social media. Some netizens seem to make jokes about the name 'Soleil'.

In a press conference, Al explained that the name Zephora is a strong Islamic identity. He admitted that he has dreamed of that name for his child for a long time.

"The name Zephora is inspired by the wife of Prophet Moses. Because honestly, if it’s a girl, I can’t. There hasn't been, there hasn’t been a thought of a name before. But this name Zephora is what I’ve always wanted to name my child," said Al Ghazali when met at JWCC Asih Hospital, South Jakarta, Wednesday (13/5/2026).

Regarding the netizens' response who made fun of his child's name, Al mentioned that his wife, Alyssa, had already made a firm statement. Alyssa does not want her daughter's beautiful name to be taken lightly.

"And Alyssa also had a chance to speak up, asking not to joke about it because its meaning is so beautiful, so deep. Yes, because it is indeed an Islamic name," said Al.

Personally, Al admitted that he did not mind the joke too much. However, he understands Alyssa's concern that she wants their child to have a name that is respected and not teased.

"Oh, no. At first, she (Alyssa) was afraid that her child would be teased about the name, so (the name) has to be good," he said.

Al also added that the last name 'Ghazali' is his own identity. He assured that there was no intervention from his parents in the naming process.

"Ghazali is my name. There’s no (idea from my parents). None. Just my Dad, sorry, no," he concluded while laughing.
