Serving a seven-year prison sentence at Lapas Nusakambangan makes Ammar Zoni face a bitter reality. His high-risk status severely limits interactions with the outside world, including family.
Jon Mathias explained that in high-security status, physical visits are not allowed freely as in regular prisons. Ammar only has limited opportunities to communicate via video screen with a predetermined schedule.
"The high-risk status allows communication only with legal counsel and family. Well, communication is usually through video calls," said Jon Mathias when met in the Benhil area, Central Jakarta, Wednesday (13/5/2026).
"It happens once a month. That is our effort to make sure he goes from high risk to medium," he added.
The extended family hopes that the behavioral assessment process for Ammar in the prison goes smoothly.
If his status successfully drops to medium risk, then Ammar can receive direct visit facilities from his family.
"And after he drops from high risk, he will be treated like a regular inmate. He can be visited directly. Moreover, if he is transferred, his status will already be medium, just like normal," explained Jon Mathias.
As is known, Ammar Zoni now has to serve a seven-year prison sentence at Nusakambangan Prison. In a release from the Directorate General of Corrections, it was mentioned that Ammar has been transferred to Nusakambangan on Friday, (8/5).
Jon Mathias, as Ammar's legal counsel, provided some education to Ammar before his transfer. He reminded Ammar that following procedures is the best way to ensure that his behavior assessment in prison remains good for the sake of his future.
