Ammar Zoni's Verdict Reading Postponed, If Sentenced to a Longer Prison Term His Side Will Seek an Appeal

Kapanlagi.com - Ammar Zoni was unable to hear the verdict from the West Jakarta District Court regarding the drug abuse and possession case that ensnared him. The hearing, which was supposed to be scheduled for the reading of the verdict on Tuesday (20/8/2024), had to be postponed because the panel of judges was not yet ready.

The postponement occurred because the judge had just received the rehabilitation assessment letter from the Provincial National Narcotics Agency (BNNP), thus requiring more time to consider the verdict to be delivered.

Ammar Zoni's attorney, Tanri Syahreza, expressed that he had no objections to the postponement. According to Tanri, the judge's decision to postpone the reading of the verdict is reasonable considering that the judge wants to take all aspects into account to ensure that the verdict delivered later is the best one.

"So if the judge said the 15th of August, the panel has received the letter from BNNP and will study it first before reading the verdict, we think that is a good decision from the judge for the verdict on Monday," said Tanri Syahreza after the hearing.

1. Ammar Denies Involvement in Drug Trafficking

Tanri is optimistic that his client will receive a light sentence, because in the trial facts, Ammar Zoni has not been proven to be involved in the drug business. He emphasizes that Ammar only consumed narcotics for himself.

He added that Article 114 of the Narcotics Law imposed on Ammar is considered too heavy and that Ammar should be charged under Article 127, which is more appropriate for drug users.

"If we actually for rehab we do not want to focus on rehab, because in Article 114 it is too heavy for us, we believe the appropriate article is Article 127 where Ammar consumed personally and we do not find that Ammar was involved in trafficking," he said.

Tanri has also coordinated with Ammar Zoni regarding the possibility of the judge's decision. Ammar has entrusted all decisions to his legal team and is ready to take further legal steps if necessary.

"For Ammar, he has already entrusted it to us. If the decision is high, there will be an appeal effort,"

"From our side, it is more accurate to wait for the judge's decision, because what the judge considers in making a decision requires careful consideration first. For now, we cannot talk extensively because we are waiting for the considerations. Whether the judge's considerations are appropriate or not," he concluded.

2. Ammar Suspected of Being Involved in Drug Trafficking

Previously, Ammar Zoni was arrested by the Narcotics Unit of the West Jakarta Metro Police on December 12, 2023, at his apartment in the BSD area, South Tangerang. This arrest marks the third time for Ammar related to narcotics cases. During the arrest, the police successfully secured evidence in the form of four packages of methamphetamine and one package of marijuana.

However, during the trial, new facts emerged that Ammar Zoni allegedly provided capital to the defendant Akri Hohakai to engage in drug trafficking. Ammar Zoni is reported to have provided a capital of IDR 50 million to Akri, which was then converted into profits in the form of 5 grams of methamphetamine enjoyed by Ammar, and is suspected of receiving the proceeds from Akri's sales. This confession was revealed directly by Akri Hohakai in front of the judge during the trial.
