Angelina Sondakh Shares Update on Her Mother's Condition Who is Suffering from Dementia

Angelina Sondakh shares the latest news regarding her mother’s condition who is suffering from dementia. She explained that her mother is now undergoing speech therapy as part of the recovery process.

"She can walk now, stand, and her communication is also smooth. It was indeed a heavy shock when it happened twice. Because my mom first entered Pondok Indah, then returned home, and after 3 days at home, she had to go back to ICU again, at Medistra, and thank God she is now back home," said Angelina when met at TPU Jeruk Purut, South Jakarta, Monday (14/4/2025).

"Thank God my mom doesn’t need an oxygen tank, ventilator, she is still conscious, and can still communicate. Now slowly, she is doing speech therapy," she added.

Although she has not fully recovered, the mother no longer requires a breathing aid. However, there are still challenges regarding her food intake

"Not yet (removed). Because there are two tubes, the oxygen tube and the food tube. The food tube is still attached because my mom is still having difficulty swallowing," she said.

Angelina emphasized the importance of therapy to restore her mother's swallowing ability. The wife of the late Adjie Masaid hopes that the therapy will help improve the function of the throat and tongue.

"Speech therapy is about training the throat to have the ability to push food down and also therapy for the tongue so that it can perform movements like a normal person," she explained.

The busyness of being a single mother makes it difficult for Angelina to always be there for her mother. Therefore, she chose to hire a professional nurse.

"Finally, I followed Mbak Lia's advice to hire a nurse, because I also have my own duties and responsibilities," she said.

Even though she has to divide her time between work and family, Angelina remains committed to being the backbone of the family. She feels grateful to still be able to care for her mother amidst other responsibilities.

"The kids too, Keanu has to go to school, and I am alone in the sense that I am the backbone of the family. If I don’t work, what will happen to my mom and Keanu?" she said.

Angelina feels that the opportunity to take care of her mother is a special blessing. She sees it as a fortune that not everyone has.

"But lilahitaalla Alhamdulillah, fortune is always there, Allah always provides, so I am still given the opportunity to take care of my parents for the first time," she expressed.
