Anggun Uncovers the Challenges of Shooting in PARA PERASUK, Even Having to Change Her Vocal Technique

Anggun C. Sasmi praised the young actors who starred alongside her in the film Para Perasuk. Observing the dedication of Chicco Kurniawan, Maudy Ayunda, and Angga Yunanda, Anggun admitted to feeling insecure when comparing the hard work of the film crew to her own work as a singer.

For Anggun, the process of shooting a film is much heavier and demands extra patience compared to when she performs or makes an album. She feels she has learned a lot from the professionalism of the young actors in maintaining their emotions while waiting for long take times.

Anggun expressed her admiration for the physical and mental endurance of the film crew who work from morning until late at night. This made her reflect that a singer's life tends to be more relaxed compared to that of film workers.

"For acting, no, but the difficulty is that I see the togetherness. So I see after arriving here, oh they practice together, oh so there’s a cool bonding. Because besides Maudy (Maudy Ayunda), I don’t know the others. So I only got to know them during the shooting," said Anggun C. Sasmi when met at XXI Epicentrum, South Jakarta, Tuesday (14/04/2026).

She highlighted how a singer can sometimes easily complain if they have to wait a long time, while the film crew works much harder for a perfect shot. This experience gave her a new perspective on the true meaning of hard work.

"It turns out that the film crew is really amazing. I mean they arrive early in the morning, under the scorching sun, and go home after us, when we’ve already gone home. I really admire that," she said.

"I can't imagine how much they love them, it's like dedicating their lives for a single picture, you know? And seeing this, I actually imagine that in the end, being a singer is really lazy for us," Anggun continued.

During the shooting process, Anggun also had to adjust her vocal technique to match the character of Guru Asri. Director Wregas Bhanuteja asked her to speak in a lower voice to strengthen her character's authority.

"For me, what is used... so here's the thing, during practice with Regas, he asked me to speak in a lower voice. So for me, it comes from there. Guru Asri never speaks in a high voice. And her emotions are also stable even though she sometimes gets angry," she explained.

"So I was taught to be patient, taught to appreciate that a collective effort is something that is ultimately lighter to carry and we feel that everything is multiplied," concluded Anggun.
