Ari Bias Wins Lawsuit Related to Copyright of the Song 'Bilang Saja', Here's WAMI's Response

Kapanlagi.com - The Central Jakarta Commercial Court granted the lawsuit of songwriter Ari Bias against Agnez Mo regarding copyright infringement of the song Bilang Saja. This decision requires Agnez Mo to pay a penalty of Rp 1.5 billion.

This case has garnered attention from the local music industry, including Wahana Musik Indonesia (WAMI), one of the Collective Management Organizations (LMK), which also provided its response. WAMI's President Director, Adi Adrian, emphasized the importance of respecting the efforts of individuals fighting for their rights through legal channels.

"Look, we must be able to appreciate those who fight for their rights. Because we must be able to respect that," said Adi Adrian at a press conference in the Cipete area, South Jakarta, on Wednesday (2/5/2025).

"So there are those who fight for their rights through the courts, just like WAMI, which fights for its rights. I hope everyone can appreciate that, right?" he added.

Adi also stated that WAMI is looking forward to how the Indonesian legal system will handle this case.

"Then we want to know what the law will say? Okay, let's see how the law works, we are also anxious. It's like the Indonesian law is being tested, whether it will be canceled or granted," he said.

He emphasized that the legal process is the right path to resolve disputes like this, compared to approaches outside the law.

"What should be appreciated is the effort to claim rights through the judiciary, not through vigilantism, because that is the right way through a court," Adi asserted.

Meanwhile, Makki, the bassist of Ungu who is also an administrator of WAMI, views this case as an important event that will serve as a reference for future generations.

"The events of Ari Bias and Agnez will be a historical record; this will be a reference for our descendants in the future. This is a heavy burden for law enforcement, and for Agnez and Ari, what will the outcome be?" said Makki.

4. Hope for This Case

Makki hopes that this case can serve as a benchmark in the implementation of Copyright Law in Indonesia.

"We certainly want this case to be a benchmark for the Copyright Law. We definitely respect Ari and Agnez who are currently in legal proceedings. What is interesting for us is how the legal perspective is here; the law exists, the regulations exist," he explained.
