Ari Bias's Party Emphasizes Its Goal Is Not to Pursue Royalties in Its Lawsuit Against Agnez Mo - Claims to Be Often Misunderstood

Ari Bias's party, through its legal representative, Minola Sebayang, provided clarification regarding the lawsuit against Agnez Mo. Minola emphasized that the essence of this lawsuit is not to pursue royalties, but rather to uphold the legal rights of his client.

Ari Bias feels the need to correct the perception that has developed in society regarding this case. According to Minola, the ongoing case highlights legal aspects more than just economic rights. Here are the details.

“What we need to convey is that this is not about royalties. Although its implementation relates to economic rights,” said Minola Sebayang in the Kuningan area, South Jakarta, on Wednesday (19/2/2025).

He also added that many parties misunderstand the legal context of this case. “But this is not solely about royalties. This is often a misunderstanding,” he said.

Minola explained that this lawsuit is based on Article 9 of the Copyright Law. This article regulates the economic rights of creators or copyright holders, which is the main basis of the issue fought by Ari Bias.

“When there is a mix-up between the provisions of Article 9 of the Copyright Law, which falls under the title of the economic rights of creators, and Article 23, which is in the chapter on the rights of performers, it creates confusion,” he explained.

Article 9 itself emphasizes that the economic rights of creators and the economic rights of performers are two different things. “The question is, are the economic rights of creators and the economic rights of performers the same? They should be different. That is why they are regulated in different chapters and articles,” he added.

Minola also explained that the alleged violation was committed by Agnez Mo in several performances involving songs created by Ari Bias. “We assess that there are three concerts conducted by Agnez Mo, where she used the song ‘Bilang Saja’ without fulfilling the provisions as regulated in Article 9,” said Minola.
