Kapanlagi.com - Arie Untung shared memories about the character of his father, the late Untung Rumekso, who was always known for his humor by family and those around him. The deceased was described as a figure who could be funny yet still authoritative.
"He was a funny person, I mean, a comedian at home. But he could also be authoritative at different times. So he taught me a lot," said Arie Untung when met at TPU Kampung Kandang, South Jakarta, Saturday (18/7/2026).
Arie admitted he learned a lot from how his father dealt with his mother, who was known to be quite strict at home. His father's relaxed attitude and ability not to get easily offended were valuable lessons for him.
"He was really relaxed, not like overthinking. My mother is a bit strict at home, but he always had a positive outlook on people. So when I have a strict wife, I also know that the way to respond is just to be relaxed about it," said Arie.
According to Arie, his father always left a pleasant impression on anyone he met. Even in the final moments of his life, his father continued to smile.
"Whenever he met my friends, they always remembered him as someone who smiled. Even until his passing, he was smiling. So he was indeed someone who smiled generously," said Arie.
In addition to being humorous, his father was also known for being friendly with all the neighbors in their residential area. The habit of greeting has even become a sort of family tradition.
"Pukung taught us that the house of Pukung means there are many neighbors. Yes, he said this has become like a tradition for Pukung," said Arie.
This habit of greeting neighbors has been passed down to Arie until now. He admits that he is also known by many people thanks to his father's habit.
"Sometimes when we are in the village and want to go to the main road, we have to pass many houses, and we greet each one, so we get to know everyone. In the end, I also followed suit; I greet everyone I meet, so I have many friends because of him," said Arie.
