Challenges Hanung Bramantyo Faces in Finding the Cast of Emon in the Film 'CATATAN SI BOY' Version 2023

Kapanlagi.com - As a director, Hanung Bramantyo is involved in casting the actors for his films. Now, there is a unique story that happened when Zaskia Adya Mecca's husband conducted casting for the actors in his latest film, CATATAN SI BOY version 2023.

For the characters Boy, Nuke, and Vera, Hanung easily found suitable actors. In fact, when he saw Alyssa Daguise, the 47-year-old man was sure that she was suitable to play the character Vera.

"During the shooting process, I met Alyssa upon Sanjay's recommendation. When I saw her, I was convinced that she is Vera. Her presence aligns with the required gestures and thoughts, she is beautiful but her character is not guaranteed as a soulmate," said Hanung Bramantyo to reporters in the Kuningan area, South Jakarta, recently.

1. Difficulty Finding Emon's Character

New difficulties arise when Hanung searches for an actor to play Boy's friend, Emon. After casting more than 50 people, none of them meet the criteria expected by producer Manoj Punjabi.

Finally, after reconsidering, Hanung decides to re-record the scene with Elmandsipasi, and Manoj Punjabi responds positively and even laughs.

"I was almost trapped with Emon, who is very critical and smart. However, Mr. Manoj does not want a character that is too smart to lecture and hurt others' feelings, not wanting to appear smarter than others," Hanung said.

2. Repeated Casting

However, Hanung finally found the right person. This was done during a repeated casting of several potential actors.

"Finally, we met Elmand, and it turned out he had been cast in the first place. We did a re-cast and finally he could represent the character well. Our goal is for the audience to not feel hurt and for their watching experience to be entertaining and not uncomfortable," he added.

The movie Catatan Si Boy originally was a popular drama film in 1987 starring actors like Onky Alexander, the late Didi Petet, and Meriam Bellina. This film has become part of the beloved pop culture by the younger generation and even adapted into a television series.

Meanwhile, the version of Catatan Si Boy (2023) directed by Hanung Bramantyo has a different nuance from its original version. This film tells the story of modern teenage romance, with the main character being a wealthy young man named Boy (Angga Yunanda) who has a long-distance relationship with Nuke (Syifa Hadju) because Nuke has to continue her education abroad.

While being separated from Nuke, Boy becomes interested in another woman, Vera (Alyssa Daguise), which complicates their relationship even more.

This film is a collaboration between MD Pictures, MVP, and Dapur Film, and has announced the project and cast in June 2022. The plan is for the film to be released on August 17th.
