Christie Releases Single "Obsession", Its Song Becomes the Soundtrack for the Latest Thriller Series Starring Jefri Nichol

This song also serves as the original soundtrack for the thriller series True Stalker, starring Jefri Nichol and Van der Veken. "This song is quite exciting even though it's about toxic, right? But we made it upbeat because it's fun. Most of my songs are ballads, especially when I first entered the music industry. But I am starting to find my character," said Christie when met at Musica Studio, Central Jakarta, Monday (23/12/2024).

Carrying an obsessive theme, Obsession is inspired by the story in the series True Stalker. This song tells the story of someone who is so obsessed with their idol that they are willing to do anything to get closer to them. With relatable lyrics, this song attempts to depict the complex feelings of someone trapped in obsession.

"This song tells the story of a girl who is crazy about her crush, right? Until she stalks him on Instagram and knows where he is," said Christie.

According to Christie, this project began when the True Stalker production team approached her for collaboration. They were looking for a song with an upbeat and energetic character, which they felt matched Christie’s evolving musical style.

"I was approached by Kak Rayi to create a soundtrack for an OTT project that was about to launch. Because they were looking for an upbeat and energetic song, maybe they knew that I was currently enjoying making songs that fit their criteria, that’s why they reached out to us. In the end, they sent the guidance for the story," explained Christie.

The creation process of the song Obsesi involved collaboration between Christie, Rayi RAN, and Monica Karina. They started with a simple idea about the word ‘cegil’ which developed into lyrics that represent the story of the song. The creative process went quickly thanks to a smooth discussion.

"It was like toxic. It flowed really well, then Kak Rayi asked me what I would do to this guy if I became cegil. Of course, I would find out where the guy is. So Kak Rayi helped me express what I felt if I were cegil," Christie shared.

With this song, Christie hopes to bring a new vibe to the Indonesian music industry while also showcasing her identity as a singer with a strong character. The song and music video for Obsesi are now available on various digital platforms for listeners to enjoy.

"I hope this song can not only be enjoyed but that listeners can also relate and groove along," concluded Christie.
