Geprek Bensu belongs to Ruben, while I Am Geprek Bensu is from PT Ayam Geprek Benny Sujono. There has even been a years-long feud between the owners, which has now reached its conclusion.

1. I Am Geprek Bensu Started First and Ruben Became Brand Ambassador

Two entrepreneurs from PT Ayam Geprek Benny Sujono, Yancent Kurniawan and Stefani Livinus, founded I Am Geprek Bensu in April 2017. They asked Jordi Onsu to become the operational manager. Jordi then offered his brother, Ruben Onsu, to become the brand ambassador, which was finally approved by the owner.

2. Ruben Establishes Geprek Bensu

After being appointed as the brand ambassador, Ruben asked for one employee to be hired in the kitchen department. Around August 2017, Ruben invited the employee to join his own chicken geprek business named Geprek Bensu. Sarwendah, Ruben's husband, then prohibited Yancent from using the Bensu name for their business.

3. Ruben Registers the Name Bensu and Files a Lawsuit

A year later, Ruben Onsu registered the name Bensu as an abbreviation of his name, Ruben Samuel Onsu, with the South Jakarta District Court. In August 2019, Ruben sued PT Ayam Geprek Benny Sujono for using the name Bensu. Not accepting it, PT Ayam Geprek Bensu filed a counter lawsuit.

4. Ruben's Lawsuit Rejected

In January 2020, the Central Jakarta Commercial Court rejected Ruben's lawsuit and ruled in favor of PT Ayam Geprek Benny Sujono's counterclaim. Not only that, but six trademarks registered by Ruben Onsu were also declared null and void with all legal consequences.

5. Ruben's Cassation Rejected

Not staying silent after the rejection by the Central Jakarta Commercial Court, Ruben brought this case to the Supreme Court by filing a cassation in April 2020. A month later, the Supreme Court rejected Ruben's cassation and upheld the decision of the Central Jakarta Commercial Court. The rejection is stated in the Supreme Court's decision with case number 57/Pdt.Sus-HKI/Merek/2019/PN Niaga Jkt.Pst., which was announced through the official website of the Directory of Supreme Court Decisions of the Republic of Indonesia on Thursday (11/6/2020).
