Ruben Onsu's Cassation on the Use of Bensu Abbreviation by Others Rejected by the Supreme Court

Kapanlagi.com - In August 2019, presenter Ruben Onsu filed a lawsuit with the Central Jakarta Commercial Court regarding the use of the Bensu name abbreviation by others as their trademark. The lawsuit was registered under case number 57/Pdt.Sus-HKI/Merek/2019/PN Niaga Jkt.Pst.

However, in the verdict hearing held on January 13, 2020, the Judge rejected the lawsuit of Sarwendah's husband. This is because PT Ayam Geprek Benny Sujono was proven to be the rightful owner of the I Am Geprek Bensu trademark.

1. Cassation Rejected

On April 23, 2020, Ruben Onsu filed a cassation or cancellation of the court decision to the Supreme Court with registration number 575 K/Pdt.Sus-HKI/2020. However, the Panel of Judges of the Supreme Court rejected the cassation on May 20, 2020.

"We are very grateful that this dispute has finally ended with a final legal decision," said Kurniawan, the director of PT Ayam Geprek Benny Sujono, when interviewed by the media recently.

2. Promotional Ambassador

In May 2017, the brand I Am Geprek Bensu appointed Ruben Onsu as a promotional ambassador. His task was to promote the culinary business made from chicken.

Then after four months of being involved in the business, Ruben claimed that Bensu was an abbreviation of his name. Meanwhile, the brand I Am Geprek Bensu had already been registered with the Directorate of Intellectual Property Rights on May 3, 2017.
