Colored by Oration, Razman Nasution is Surprised by the Sudden Online Verdict Hearing Against Hotman Paris

The atmosphere at the North Jakarta District Court heated up on Tuesday (2/9/2025), ahead of the reading of the verdict in the defamation case involving lawyer Razman Arief Nasution. Amid his feud with Hotman Paris Hutapea, this hearing was colored by the actions of supporting masses and a sudden decision that left Razman's side bewildered.

Since morning, a group of people identifying themselves as the Alliance of the Voiceless People, Law Students Concerned About Law, and the Street Musician Community have gathered in front of the courthouse. They voiced one main demand: for the panel of judges to acquit Razman Nasution from the case reported by Hotman Paris.

Seeing the support, Razman Nasution did not stay silent. Before entering the courthouse, he climbed onto the roof of a car and gave a speech, thanking his supporters who had come.

"This is the voice that has come to me through DMs, phone calls, and so on. Actually, because many have forbidden me, otherwise there would be even more," Razman said from atop the car.

He emphasized that their voices must be heard for the sake of justice, even though the number present was not massive. "Therefore, even though it is just a few, their voices must be heard, so that the law stands straight," he added.

In the midst of the action happening outside, an unexpected decision came from within the courtroom. The verdict session that was supposed to be held face-to-face was suddenly switched to online. Razman expressed his surprise and suspected there was a strategy behind this change in format.

"Our suspicion for the investigation so that we don't have to come and so on, why must it be online, why can't it just be in person? I will listen to the verdict from outside," he remarked.

As information, the Public Prosecutor (JPU) had previously charged Razman with two years of imprisonment and a fine of Rp200 million. This case began from a report made by Hotman Paris in May 2022.

The report was related to allegations of sexual harassment made against Hotman by his former personal assistant, Iqlima Kim, who was at that time accompanied by Razman as legal counsel. Unhappy with this, Hotman reported both of them for defamation.

As the verdict approaches, Razman has also prepared for the possibility that the judge's decision does not meet his expectations. He warned that he would take legal action. "If the judge does not decide the case fairly, this will certainly face opposition from the public and/or from us legally," he concluded.
