Dea Lestari's Totality in the Film 'CALL FROM THE GRAVE', Admits to Entering the 'Supernatural World' During Filming

After a long career in television and broadcasting, Dea bravely stars in a horror film titled PANGGILAN DARI KUBUR which will be released simultaneously in cinemas across Indonesia starting August 14, 2025.

This decision was not made lightly, considering Dea claims to have a special sensitivity to supernatural things. The woman born in Bandung explained that her decision to venture into film was driven by a strong desire to continue growing as an artist. She also expressed that this is the right moment for her to step out of her comfort zone.

"I'm spreading my wings, you know. Or why I entered the world of cinema is because I want to get out of my comfort zone to be able to grow, that's why I like new challenges that are challenging," said Dea Lestari when met during the gala premiere of the film at XXI Plaza Indonesia, Jakarta, on Monday (11/8/2025).

In this film produced by Dunia Mencekam Studios, Dea is cast as a mother from a remote village. She acts alongside several big names such as Nugie, Nirina Zubir, and senior actor Septian Dwi Cahyo. Although initially not a fan of horror films, Dea admitted she was immediately captivated by the storyline presented by director Dyan Sunu Prastowo.

1. More Than Just Ordinary Tension

According to her, this film offers something more than just ordinary tension. The actress feels that the story of this film has a depth that touches the emotional side of the audience.

"I'm actually not the type of person who enjoys watching horror films, but the story of this film piqued my curiosity. The horror isn't just tense; it also leaves a warm feeling, joy, and a spirit to rise again within a small family," said Dea.

More than just scary scenes, Call from the Grave is considered successful in embedding a strong moral message about the strength of a family. Dea feels proud to be part of a project that can beautifully combine horror with family warmth. She also shared stories about audience reactions that proved the strength of that message.

"In the midst of any disaster, if we as a family support each other, we can definitely rise again. It's really cool that this can be mixed with horror. In fact, there was an audience member who said that after watching, they went home and immediately hugged their child. That's what makes this film special," she said.

2. Mystical Experience

Speaking of total acting, Dea Lestari not only acted in fear but also directly experienced an unforgettable mystical experience on set. The most tense moment occurred when she played a scene being choked by the ghost of a little child, where she felt as if she was being pulled into another dimension.

"I felt like I entered the mystical world of the child. The recording of the scene even shook and had to be repeated several times. Only I felt the presence of supernatural beings around the location that seemed to want to communicate with me," she revealed.

3. Satisfied With the Final Result

Although she experienced events beyond reason, Dea admitted that she did not encounter any further disturbances and was actually very satisfied with the final result of her film. The experience made her appreciate the uniqueness of the horror film she starred in even more. According to her, this film provides a different horror sensation.

"Surprisingly, I really like the result. The horror is not just 'jump scares' in front of your eyes, but there's a feeling that lingers afterwards—warm, enjoyable, and uplifting," Dea emphasized.

Dea Lestari's step into the film world proves her seriousness in developing her career. Previously, the woman who started her career as a news radio broadcaster in 2006 has been active in the entertainment world. She has starred in FTV, soap operas, and even became a newsreader on a national television station in 2010.

Not only that, she is also known as a host for various programs, ranging from music, traveling, to popular reality shows like Bedah Rumah. Outside of the entertainment world, Dea is an entrepreneur and the principal of a kindergarten that she established since 2015.
