Desta Surprised When Looking in the Mirror and Feels Very Much Like the Late Dono

Actor and presenter Desta Mahendra has been entrusted to portray the legendary character of the late Dono in the latest Warkop DKI film. He admits that there is a heavy burden on his shoulders, especially regarding the physical transformation that is a hallmark of Dono.

Nevertheless, Desta claims that the production team has prepared everything very thoroughly to help him delve into the role. He is also making every effort to bring Dono's character back to the big screen.

"This has already changed physically. It has changed. If we talk about physical changes, actually a lot has been prepared because the team has also really prepared everything, there’s an ambulance, eh the team has really prepared everything," said Desta at the Falcon Pictures office recently.

"Yes, we are trying to capture the character of the late Pakde Dono. But, in the end, when I saw it myself, I felt, wow, I actually look similar. This is something I didn’t expect, you know," he added.

One of the challenges he faced was gaining weight. Desta, who is known as someone who loves to exercise, admitted to having difficulty adding weight for this role.

"Gaining weight is quite difficult because I am really an athlete. So my cardio is extremely intense, making it hard because if I don’t exercise, I get stressed," he explained.

Interestingly, a similar reaction also came from his children. When Desta showed a photo of his character's makeup, his child was initially confused before finally realizing the resemblance to his late father, Dono, after seeing the original photo.

"When I saw the photo, 'Dad, why does your face look like that? Who does that look like?' After that, she browsed for his photo. 'Wow, Dad looks so much like him?'" Desta recounted, mimicking his child's words.

This resemblance of Desta was also acknowledged by his co-star, Vino G. Bastian, who mentioned that not only the face but also Desta's voice is very similar to the original character Dono. "Very similar. The voice. The voice, really. You guys have to, eh, never mind. You guys have to watch it in the cinema later, his voice is really similar to mine," praised Vino G. Bastian at the same location.
