The continuation of the drug case involving senior musician Fariz RM was held again at the South Jakarta District Court on Thursday (19/6/2025). This time's agenda presented witnesses from the Public Prosecutor (JPU) to clarify Fariz RM's role in the case.
Fariz RM is accused of being involved in the drug trade along with his former driver, ADK. However, Fariz's attorney, Griffinly Mewoh, emphasized that his client is not a dealer, but rather a victim of the drug trade targeting users.
"Yes, we are grateful because it is heading towards a clear point in accordance with what Mas Faris himself has done, because from the beginning Mas Faris was accused of being involved in the drug trade, it's different, you know, between a dealer and a drug user," said Griffinly.
According to him, the witness's statement in this trial points to the fact that Fariz bought for personal consumption, not for distribution or resale.
"Earlier the indictment pointed to the distributor, not the user. But from the witnesses presented... it indicates that yes, he indeed ordered and when asked, he used it for personal purposes," he continued.
Griffinly also explained the chronology of Fariz RM's arrest based on the development from ADK's arrest. The evidence in the form of marijuana was claimed to belong to ADK which was ordered by Fariz.
"Mas Deni stated he was arrested for having marijuana, he said it was indeed his but for whom? It was bought by Mas Fariz based on the testimony and the witness also conveyed from the chat," he explained.
He also denied that his client is part of a distribution network, showing the content of conversations that he believes resemble more of a consumer and user interaction.
"Well, it's called a chat, right? If the item is used, it must not be a dealer... If it were a dealer, I would transfer the proceeds from the sale. If it's 'I'm asking you, I'm feeling down' or stressed, here I transfer 300," he added.
