'From the Window of Junior High School' Receives Written Warning Sanction from KPI

Kapanlagi.com - The flagship soap opera of SCTV, From the Window of Junior High School, has sparked a huge controversy. Some people consider the story of this soap opera to be unique, but many also claim that it is too mature for the classification of teenage programming.

Some people then reported the show From the Window of Junior High School to the Indonesian Broadcasting Commission (KPI). And after a detailed review, the soap opera starring Rey Bong finally received a sanction in the form of a first written warning.

"We examined episodes 1 to 9. After analysis, KPI imposed sanctions on the soap opera From the Window of Junior High School. Besides improving the content, it must also evaluate the production process. If, after receiving the sanction, it continues to exploit the story of teenage pregnancy out of wedlock, KPI will not hesitate to issue further sanctions. The sanctions at KPI include a first written warning, a second written warning, and if it happens twice, it may lead to a temporary suspension of the program," said Nuning Rodiyah, Commissioner of the Central KPI, when contacted by KapanLagi.com via telephone on Thursday (9/7/2020).

1. Not Immediately Stopped

The KPI (Indonesian Broadcasting Commission) did not immediately stop the broadcast of Dari Jendela SMP because it did not violate severe rules such as SARA (Ethnic, Religion, Race, and Inter-group Relations) and vulgarism. However, if SCTV (the broadcasting station) does not improve the storyline after the first warning, KPI may take strict action.

"Currently, it is still the first warning because we cannot immediately take action. We can stop the program immediately if it involves SARA, discredits other religions, displays lip kissing, exploits women's bodies. Those actions will directly receive consequences. Since Dari Jendela SMP does not lead to temporary suspension, we cannot use that," he explained.

2. Giving Negative Inspiration to Children and Adolescents

Previously, SCTV has clarified that the storyline of Dari Jendela SMP has been modified from its original story, which is an old novel by Mira W. However, KPI still believes that there are several aspects that need to be improved in the show.

"We refer to Article 37, paragraph 1, and Article 37, paragraph 4, letter A. Article 37, paragraph 1 prohibits anything that gives negative inspiration to children and adolescents. That is what is not allowed. In our assessment, scene by scene, the whole picture already shows the potential for imitation, actions that are not suitable for the psychological development of teenagers and children. For example, getting pregnant during junior high school," Nuning concluded.
