Actor and producer Gusti Randa expressed his shock upon hearing the news of Ray Sahetapy's passing. He revealed that he had a fairly close relationship with the deceased, both personally and professionally.
"I was shocked, but I also knew that Bung Ray had an illness. I came with Mr. Trimedya as the producer of Nagabonar Reborn," said Gusti Randa when met at the Sentosa funeral home (Gatot Subroto) Block C, Thursday (3/4/2025).
Gusti Randa revealed that Ray Sahetapy often participated in the production projects he worked on. According to him, the late Ray was always a part of the productions handled by GNTP Production.
"In that context, Bung Ray participated in acting, coincidentally we have GNTP Production. Every time we produced something, Bung Ray acted. For example, in the soap opera P in Semarang, there was Bung Ray. In the FTV Orang Kaya Baru, Bung Ray also acted. Lastly, in Nagabonar Reborn. So I used Bung Ray's services," he stated.
Not just a work colleague, Gusti Randa admitted to having a personal closeness with Ray Sahetapy. He even shared a room with him for two years while shooting in Nusa Penida.
"Personally, I was very close to him; I was shooting in Nusa Penida for quite a long time, almost two years of shooting. My roommate for two years was him. So we always discussed things," he reminisced.
Many memories remain in Gusti Randa's mind, one of which is the signature greeting always spoken by Ray Sahetapy."One thing that I always remember about him is his greeting, Ray's, 'Salam Nusantara'. So it could be translated, I as a colleague could also be considered a younger sibling in a film because we were often compared," he added.
The passing of Ray Sahetapy is certainly a sorrow for many people, especially for those who have worked with him. As a colleague and friend, Gusti Randa feels the loss of a senior actor who was very dedicated to the world of acting."Yes, I feel a loss. May he rest in peace," he concluded.
Ray Sahetapy is indeed known as a talented actor who has had a career for decades in the Indonesian entertainment industry. His passing leaves a deep sorrow for family, friends, and fans of films and theater in the country.
