Having a Coffee Philosophy Session with Rio Dewanto and Chicco Jerikho, Angga Sasongko Denies Following Celebrity Business Trend

Kapanlagi.com - Filmmaker Angga Dwimas Sasongko, along with Chicco Jerikho and Rio Dewanto, ventures into the food and beverage business by opening a cafe named Filosofi Kopi. Coinciding with International Coffee Day on October 1, they inaugurated their seventh cafe.

In an interview with the media, Angga Dwimas Sasongko revealed that Filosofi Kopi was once considered a celebrity business trend. A few years ago, it was common for public figures, from presenter Raffi Ahmad to musician Melly Goeslaw, to open similar businesses.

However, over the years, those businesses gradually declined. Meanwhile, Filosofi Kopi has managed to sustain itself for the past six years, despite facing many challenges.

"In the past, Filosofi Kopi was seen as a celebrity business. We made a movie and then opened a cafe. But this was already planned. We didn't see Filosofi Kopi as something that would become a big entity, opening 300 cafes in a year. We want to sustain, take it slow," said Angga when met in Pasar Baru, Central Jakarta, on Friday (1/10).

1. Struggles During the Pandemic

During this pandemic, Rio Dewanto said that the struggle of Filosofi Kopi has been difficult. Fortunately, they received billions of rupiah in investment to continue to survive.

Not only in the food and beverage industry, Filosofi Kopi has also expanded its products in various forms through collaborations. This method is considered to strengthen the creative industry ecosystem.

"Filosofi Kopi has been struggling during the pandemic. But now we have a massive plan for this year and next year. Besides coffee, we also have collaborations in bicycles, masks, and others. We have been running the spirit of collaboration from the beginning," explained Rio on the same occasion.

"Filosofi Kopi can be considered a pioneer from a book to a film, then to products and becoming an Intellectual Property ecosystem. After six years, there has been nothing like this. The book still exists, the content has developed into films, series, music, and branded content," said Angga.
