The 2026 World Cup in North America is predicted to be full of surprises. Ibnu Jamil, known as a football analyst, mentioned that a team's performance in the qualifying round cannot be an absolute guarantee when they appear in the final round later.

Ibnu believes that many things can change when the tournament starts, ranging from player injury issues to changes in coaching strategies. For him, all teams will start their struggle from the same point once the opening whistle is blown in the United States, Mexico, and Canada.

"I will say this, when it comes to qualifications, it will not be a definite benchmark for later competing in the final match. It will go back to 0-0 again because all teams will prepare again," said Ibnu Jamil when met in the Epicentrum area, South Jakarta, recently.

Ibnu added that the preparation of each team in the final phase is far more crucial compared to their winning records in the past. He sees that both big and small teams have equal opportunities to create new history on American soil.

"Because all teams have the opportunity to improve, have the chance to revise the mistakes they made yesterday. Not to mention there are injured players, changes in lineup, so going back to the World Cup final later there will be America, there will be Mexico, it's 0-0 again," he said again.

According to Ibnu, the results achieved during the qualifying round cannot be directly used as a benchmark to assess a team's chances in the final round. This is because each country has the opportunity to evaluate and make improvements before the tournament begins.

Interestingly, when asked about his favorite underdog team or dark horse, Ibnu Jamil did not hesitate to point to a representative from Asia.

"All big teams have the same chance, even underdog teams have the same opportunity. In fact, I slightly favor Japan," said Ibnu.
