2. Unexpected Challenge: Diarrhea in the Middle of a Mission

However, Irfan Hakim's journey in West Kalimantan turned out to be not as smooth as he had imagined. In the midst of the success of the conservation mission, he had to face an unexpected challenge, which was quite severe diarrhea. This condition even affected the family members who accompanied him on the trip.

"That night I ate a lot of durian. The next day, diarrhea. It was wur wur 11 times," he joked when met in the area of Jalan Kapten Tendean, Mampang, South Jakarta, Monday (10/2/2025).

His condition worsened to the point where he needed medical treatment. "I even had a doctor visit and got an IV. I was thinking, is it because I ate too much durian? Or did I catch a cold because I wore traditional Dayak clothes? Or was I just exhausted," Irfan added.

However, what was even more surprising was that this condition also spread to his family. His wife and children experienced similar symptoms. Irfan even thought there might be a mystical element behind this incident.

3. Ending in Mysticism

"From a medical perspective, I thought, ah, there’s some mysticism to it," he said while laughing.

According to Irfan, local residents had also warned him not to shout while at Lake Sentarum.

"It turns out the people there said, 'Mas Irfan, you shouldn’t shout. You shouldn’t act up,'" he recalled.

Even though he felt weak for a moment, Irfan continued his journey with enthusiasm. The trip in West Kalimantan required him to use various modes of transportation, from boats to cars.

"On the second day, I just stayed quiet. I was already weak. On the third day of the journey, I concentrated and focused on the trip. Plus, the journey involved using a boat and a car. I was afraid of getting diarrhea again," he said.
