The name "Doraemon" comes from a combination of the word "dora" (which can mean gong or is also an abbreviation of "dora neko" meaning wild cat) and "emon" (a traditional Japanese suffix for male names).
Doraemon was created by Fujiko F. Fujio, the pen name of the writing duo Hiroshi Fujimoto and Motoo Abiko. They worked together until they parted ways in 1987.
In the story, Doraemon comes from the 22nd century, specifically from September 3, 2112.
The story about Doraemon losing his ears because of a bite from a robot mouse and becoming afraid of mice is part of the plot revealed in several episodes and related media.
Initially, Doraemon was yellow. After his ears were bitten by a robot mouse, he felt so sad that he cried continuously, which changed his color to blue. This is part of the story in the Doraemon comics and films.
The Doraemon anime first aired in 1973 on Nippon TV, but it was not very popular. The series that started in 1979 on TV Asahi became very successful and continues to this day. Â
Doraemon is very popular in Japan and has a significant influence in various Asian countries. In 2008, the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs designated Doraemon as the "anime ambassador" to promote Japanese culture.
