Jarwo Kwat Supports Komeng to Realize National Comedy Day

Kapanlagi.com - Jarwo Kwat shared his views on his friend, Komeng, who is now active as a member of the Indonesian Regional Representative Council. One of Komeng's aspirations is to elevate the arts and culture, especially comedy, to a national level through his role in parliament.

"Of course, that's his aspiration. And his campaign promise before, well maybe it could happen during the next interim replacement. For example, this year he is in Committee 2, later assigned to Committee 3 which is his field," said Jarwo Kwat when met in the Pondok Kelapa area, East Jakarta, on Tuesday (7/1/2025).

According to him, even though Komeng is currently outside the field of arts and culture, he still strives to voice the aspirations of comedy artists. One of the examples is pushing for the establishment of National Comedy Day on September 27.

"Well, I think like now, like National Comedy Day, even though he is in Committee 2, which is not his field, but he still tries to convey our aspirations as comedy artists to the ministry or to the Regional Representative Council or to the Indonesian House of Representatives, how to ensure that National Comedy Day can be declared on September 27. He continues to carry this out," he explained.

Jarwo, who is also part of the Indonesian Comedy Artists Association (PASKI), emphasized that PASKI fully supports Komeng's efforts to advocate for National Comedy Day. He believes this moment is very important to be recognized, considering that there are already many national days for other arts.

"Yes, definitely, because indeed PASKI's aspiration has been like that from the beginning. There are already music days, film days, freedom days, there are. How come there isn't a comedy day?" he said.

In addition, Jarwo mentioned that PASKI has met with Fadli Zon, the Minister of Culture, to discuss the plan. He hopes for full support from the government so that National Comedy Day can be realized soon.

"We have met Mr. Fadli Zon as the Minister of Culture, about a month ago. Hopefully, this can be well received by the government and also supported by the DPR RI," said Jarwo.

2. Optimistic

Jarwo is optimistic that support from various parties, including the Ministry of Culture and the Indonesian House of Representatives, can help realize National Comedy Day. He also mentioned that supporting programs such as discussions and socialization will be conducted to strengthen this campaign.

"Well, hopefully the Ministry of Culture can support in any way. Whether it's moral support, material support, hopefully it can be supported and realized," Jarwo hoped.

He is confident that with the encouragement of the community and the enthusiasm of comedy artists, this aspiration will soon become a reality. Support from figures like Denny Cagur in the Indonesian House of Representatives is also an important asset to facilitate this effort.
