Jeff Smith Sentenced to 6 Months in Prison, Files a Plea

Kapanlagi.com - The trial for the drug case involving actor Jeff Smith is still ongoing. On Thursday (19/8/2021), the trial was held again at the West Jakarta District Court, with the agenda of reading the charges.

After the charges were read by the Public Prosecutor (JPU), Jeff Smith will submit a plea or defense note in the next drug abuse trial. This was directly conveyed by his legal counsel, Aldi Surya Kusuma, after the trial.

"Alhamdulillah, it means that at this stage, the demand is six months imprisonment and also six months of rehabilitation," said Aldi.

"But we will submit a plea, a defense for Jeff Smith, which will be done next Thursday, we'll see later," he added.

1. Still Planning

However, Jeff's lawyer said that the submission of the defense note is still a plan. Everything is done so that Jeff Smith can undergo rehabilitation at the rehabilitation center that previously handled Smith in 2020.

"This is just a plan, our plea will strive to find a way for Jeff Smith to be rehabilitated at the foundation where he previously underwent rehab, that's all," said Adi.

Meanwhile, in the same occasion, Jeff Smith's mother, Areistiani, did not comment much. She only hopes that her son will receive a light punishment and that his legal issues will be resolved soon.

"As little punishment as possible, I leave everything to the lawyers," said Ariestiani.

Jeff Smith is charged with alternative articles, Article 111 paragraph (1) of the Indonesian Law No. 35 of 2009 concerning Narcotics and/or Article 127 paragraph (1) letter a of the Indonesian Law No. 35 of 2009. Jeff Smith was arrested by the police in the Jagakarsa area, South Jakarta on Thursday (15/4/2021) at 03.00 AM, and during the arrest, evidence of Jeff Smith's arrest in the form of marijuana was found.
