Kapanlagi.com - Actor Jefri Nichol returns to the big screen in the latest film produced by Falcon Pictures titled Aku Jati, Aku Asperger. In this film, Jefri plays the character Jati, a teenager who has Asperger syndrome. Jati is the younger brother of Daru, played by Dikta Wicaksono.

To prepare for his role, Jefri admits to learning a lot through a reading process and in-depth research about Asperger syndrome. Jefri shared that one of the keys to his success in understanding this role is the quality of the film's script, which is very good.

“Honestly, the relatable emotions come purely from the script; it’s that good and really helped me,” said Jefri Nichol at Plaza Indonesia, Thursday (17/10/2024).

1. Consultation with a Psychologist

Not only relying on the script, Jefri also received guidance from an acting coach and a specialist doctor in Asperger's during the reading process. This process took place in Duren Tiga, where the actors discussed directly with the doctor and psychologist.

"We had a reading session in Duren Tiga, we also had a chat with the doctor. There was a psychologist too (to understand) how people with Asperger's are," said Jefri.

In addition to conducting research with doctors and psychologists, Jefri also worked closely with the film's director, Fajar Nugros. According to Jefri, the director's role is very important in maintaining the consistency of his acting performance during the shooting process.

"(I researched) how they interact with people, how they carry out their daily lives from that research, and combined it with Mas Fajar (the director) and it was maintained by Mas Fajar during shooting," Jefri continued.

From his experience playing Jati, Jefri admitted that this film opened his eyes to the lives of people with Asperger's. Previously, he did not have a clear picture of how they lived their daily lives.

"At first, I didn't have a picture of how people with Asperger's live their daily lives," he said.

2. Wanting Society to Better Understand Asperger Syndrome

Through the film AKU JATI, Aku Asperger, Jefri hopes that society can better understand Asperger syndrome and break the existing stigma. He wants to show that people with Asperger's can also function in social life, even if their way may be different from most people.

"But after this script, I become clearer. It's like breaking my stigma, the stigma of other people like, for example, people with Asperger's can't be in social situations, but it turns out they can,” concluded Jefri Nichol.

In addition to Jefri Nichol, this film also stars Dikta, Hanggini, Carissa Perusset, Livy Renata, and several other talented young actors. The film Aku Jati, Aku Asperger is scheduled to be released in cinemas across Indonesia starting October 31, 2024.
