Kirara Hoshi JUJUTSU KAISEN, Becomes the Spotlight Due to Androgynous Appearance

Kirara Hoshi's gender identity has become a significant topic of discussion among Jujutsu Kaisen fans. Although biologically born male, Kirara has a very feminine appearance and is often referred to with the pronouns "they/them" in English translations, and is considered a transgender character by many fans. Panda, another character in the series, initially referred to Kirara as a "male" whom he hadn't seen for years, but after reuniting, both Panda and Megumi use the pronoun "they." The implication that Kirara left Jujutsu High due to conflicts with conservative higher-ups, who may not be tolerant of their gender identity, further strengthens this theory.

The Kirara Hoshi Curse Technique, known as "Love Rendezvous" (星間飛行 ラブランデヴー, Rabu Randebū), is one of the most complex and technical abilities in the Jujutsu Kaisen series. This technique is based on the Southern Cross constellation and allows Kirara to mark targets with five "stars" (Imai, Acrux, Mimosa, Ginan, and Gacrux).

To approach one star from another, the target must follow a specified order based on the distance of the stars from Earth. If the order is not followed, the target will be repelled with intense force, while targets with the same star will attract each other. This technique does not rely on brute strength, but rather on manipulation of space and position, making it a highly effective defensive tool and a spatial puzzle for opponents.

Kirara Hoshi has a deep bond of loyalty and affection with Kinji Hakari, a fellow third-year student. They were both suspended from Tokyo Jujutsu High and later established the Gachinko Fight Club, where Kirara acts as the gatekeeper and supporter of Hakari. Kirara is very protective of Hakari, even showing jealousy when Hakari mentions his ex-girlfriend. Although the nature of their relationship has never been explicitly confirmed by Gege Akutami, their interactions, such as Kirara calling Hakari "Kin-chan" and their physical closeness, strongly imply that they are a couple.

During the Culling Game Arc, Kirara Hoshi plays a crucial role as an emotional supporter and strategic shield for Hakari. Although she initially refused to help Yuji and Megumi due to her distrust of Jujutsu High, Kirara eventually agrees to coordinate and provide support from outside the battlefield. Their "Love Rendezvous" ability is particularly suited for chaotic battles, allowing them to control areas and positions, which is extremely useful in situations where positioning is key to survival. Kirara also assists Ui Ui in recovering injured allies during the attack against Sukuna in Makyo Shinjuku.

Kirara Hoshi is a clever fighter with tactical intelligence that can rival Megumi Fushiguro. They are able to quickly understand when Megumi begins to break the rules of their curse techniques and immediately take offensive action to maintain distance. Although their techniques are complex, Kirara has mastered them and made them a valuable asset for Hakari. Their ability to turn the environment into a star map and force opponents to play "orbital momentum games" shows a deep understanding of how to strategically leverage their techniques, even without great destructive power.
