Lawyer Disagrees with 6-Year Sentence for Fariz RM, Plans to Submit Abolition to the President

The 6-year prison sentence against senior musician Fariz RM has not discouraged his legal team. In addition to preparing a plea or defense note, lawyer Deolipa Yumara revealed that he will take unexpected legal steps.

Deolipa plans to submit a request for abolition or cancellation of the sentence to President Prabowo Subianto. This step is taken as a form of struggle to save Fariz RM, who is considered a victim of narcotics.

He compared his client's case to those of corruptors who, according to him, actually receive legal leniency such as abolition and amnesty.

"Well, then from the position of the plea later, we, as the lawyers, will also take other legal actions, namely because there are corruptors who have been abolished and granted amnesty, right? We also request abolition. We are the victims here, the users," said Deolipa Yumara at the South Jakarta District Court on Monday (4/8/2025).

According to him, drug users like Fariz RM are more deserving of abolition than the corruptors who harm the state.

"We request that a person like Fariz RM be abolished, just like that. Abolition means his sentence is lifted or amnesty or whatever, where we will submit a letter to the president. President Prabowo 08," he explained.

"Corruptors should not be saved, but the users who should be saved are instead being oppressed like this," he continued firmly.

When asked about Fariz RM's status as a great musician, Deolipa agreed that this was one of the considerations for why his client deserves an amnesty.

"Yes, amnesty, amnesty. We request the submission of an amnesty application," he answered confidently.

Meanwhile, Fariz RM himself is said to have resigned to the ongoing legal process.

However, as a defender, Deolipa feels it is his duty to fight for his client's fate until the last drop of blood.

"From the beginning, we have regretted it, especially Fariz RM who also regrets it. But he has already resigned from the start," Deolipa concluded.
