Marco Steffiano Supports Portugal as a World Cup Champion Candidate

Although he doesn't have a definite favorite team this edition, Marco admits he is starting to support Portugal as a potential champion. Interestingly, this support is not because of Cristiano Ronaldo. Marco is actually captivated by the quality of Portugal's midfield, which he considers very strong.

"If asked who I want to be the champion, Portugal. But not because of Ronaldo. I like their midfield. There are Bernardo Silva, Bruno Fernandes, Vitinha, Conceicao, and many other interesting players," he said.

Besides Portugal, Marco is also impressed with several players and teams' performances in the early stages of the tournament. One of them is Lionel Messi, who still performs impressively despite his age not being young anymore."Watching Messi score a hat trick is quite enjoyable. I thought he wasn't that good anymore, but he can still do a hat trick. England was also exciting when they won 4-2," he said.

In addition to paying attention to the top European teams, Marco Steffiano also has a great interest in the Asian representatives competing in the 2026 World Cup. According to the drummer of Barasuara, Japan and South Korea are showing significant development with increasingly aggressive and competitive play. 

"I support Japan because they are playing very aggressively right now. South Korea is also doing really well. I want to watch South Korea against Mexico," said Marco Steffiano when met at Emtek City, West Jakarta, Thursday (18/6/2026).

Marco believes that Asian teams are now increasingly able to compete with major countries from Europe and Latin America. Therefore, he is optimistic that there will be surprises from the Asian representatives in this tournament.

On the other hand, Marco assesses that several top European teams still have not shown consistent performance. He highlights the performances of Germany and Spain, which he believes are still fluctuating in the early stages of the competition."Germany was just okay, but it turns out they can win 7-1. Spain also hasn't shown much yet because they had a draw. So it's still interesting to watch," he explained.
