Mark Sungkar Sentenced to Two Years and Six Months in Prison in Relation to the Corruption Case of Pelatnas Triathlon Funds

"Demanding a prison sentence of 2 years and 6 months + a fine of Rp. 50 million or 3 months in prison and additional compensation of Rp. 694,900,000," said Bambang, the spokesperson of the Central Jakarta District Court, to journalists on Thursday (1/7/2021).

"The defendant Mark Sungkar violated Article 3 in conjunction with Article 18 paragraph (1) letter B of the Corruption Eradication Law," he added.

1. Entitled to Submit Defense

According to the prosecutor's demands, the 72-year-old actor is entitled to submit a defense note in the next trial. From the gathered information, the trial itself will be held on July 8, 2021.

"The next event is next Sunday, the defense note or plea submitted by the defendant's legal counsel advisor, which is on July 8, 2021," he said.

2. Accused of Creating Fictitious Financial Reports

As known, Mark Sungkar is accused by the prosecutor of enriching himself, others, and corporations through the implementation funds of national sports performance improvement activities for the 2018 fiscal year. Mark Sungkar is also accused of creating fictitious financial reports.

At that time, Mark Sungkar served as the Chairman of the Central Board of the Indonesian Triathlon Federation for the 2015-2019 term. Mark Sungkar's actions are said to have caused state losses amounting to Rp 694,900,000.

In the trial, Mark Sungkar is charged with violating Article 2 Paragraph (1) in conjunction with Article 18 Paragraph (1) letter b of the Anti-Corruption Law as a subsidiary of Article 3 in conjunction with Article 18 Paragraph (1) letter b of the Anti-Corruption Law as a further subsidiary of Article 9 in conjunction with Article 18 Paragraph (1) letter b of the Anti-Corruption Law.
