Marshanda Involves Personal Trauma to Portray Victim of Sexual Violence

Marshanda once again showcases her acting skills in a challenging legal drama film titled SAAT AKU BERSUARA. The woman born on August 10, 1989, plays the character Nadia, a smart lawyer who is a survivor of sexual violence.

"Before getting into the mental aspect, I definitely asked for a lot of input, sought a lot of information, learned from here and there, and also asked people who have experienced it. Then we had a reading first, so I could ask a lot to Mr. Sonu, to Mas Rifnu, and learned a lot from the other actors," said Marshanda when met by KapanLagi in the Senayan area, Central Jakarta, on Sunday (14/6/2026).

This mother of one admitted to conducting in-depth research to understand the psychology of a survivor who has to face social stigma. Marshanda was even advised to watch films with similar themes, but she declined because she was afraid of being influenced by the acting styles of others.

"So I was also advised to watch other movies at that time. I remember during the filming that had a similar theme, the same theme. But I chose not to watch those movies because I was afraid it would be similar to what already exists, while this is Nadia's character, right?" Marshanda.

Nadia is portrayed as an independent figure who has a brilliant career before that horrific tragedy shattered her world. Marshanda tries to incorporate remnants of trauma from her own life to bring the character's emotions to life on camera.

"Most likely, I create the trauma that exists in my life. If Caca feels trauma, I make that feeling of trauma involved when I play Nadia. But I don’t know if it turns out the same or not," she said.

This film raises the issue of sexual violence, where often the perpetrators are protected while the victims are cornered. Nadia must struggle to restore her relationship with her father, played by actor Teuku Rifnu Wikana.

"So for this character, and it is felt by her own Cac, there are many challenging emotions from Nadia's character that made me bolder to feel that way," she said.

Nadia's emotional journey from her lowest point to finding new hope becomes the main thread of this story. Marshanda hopes that the character she plays can be a source of strength for women who experience similar fates.

"Those who dare to feel the darkest and most terrifying days are the ones who can truly appreciate their most beautiful days," he concluded.
