Najwa Shihab, who was teased as a child, turns out to have more Chinese genes than Arab genes

Kapanlagi.com - Agnez Mo and Najwa Shihab recently met to have a long conversation about many positive things. And from the approximately 1-hour conversation, they also discussed Agnez's viral case a while ago regarding Indonesian blood.

As known, the presenter known for being so firm indeed has Arab descent. It's no wonder that her face also has a distinctive Middle Eastern look. But who would have thought that there is actually a larger Chinese gene in her blood.

"I recently took a DNA test, before the Agnez incident. And the DNA results showed that there are 10 lines of ancestry. It turns out that the Arab gene is a bit less, and there are more Chinese genes," said Najwa to Agnez.

1. Being Called a Camel When I Was Little

Well, because I have an Arab face, Najwa herself has experienced unpleasant incidents in the past. The daughter of Quraish Shihab received derogatory 'labels' from her friends. However, Najwa herself never took it to heart.

"Then it reminded me, when I was little, I used to be teased as a camel, but I never took it as an insult. But back then, those insults didn't seem to be very sensitive. I mean, if it's different now when people make fun of race and so on," continued Najwa.

2. Being Indonesian Is..

Returning to the topic of 'Indonesian Blood', Najwa basically just wants to assert that she is purely Indonesian, regardless of her Arab or Chinese genes, regardless of her Arab face or anything else. For Najwa, being Indonesian means much more than all the labels that have been frequently compared by the public.

"I never felt like I wasn't Indonesian. I truly believe that being Indonesian is not about lineage, not about where we come from. Being Indonesian is when we have the intention and effort to make this country a home for everyone," she concluded, supported by Agnez.
