Paula Verhoeven Cries While Reporting Alleged Violence, National Commission on Violence Against Women: Psychological Wounds Have Not Healed Yet

A touching moment occurred when Paula Verhoeven visited the office of the National Commission on Violence Against Women on Wednesday (30/4/2025). Accompanied by her attorney, Paula reported allegations of domestic violence and discrimination she faced while still in a marriage with Baim Wong. Commissioner Sundari from the National Commission on Violence Against Women stated that Paula appeared very emotional while presenting her complaint.

"So specifically for Mrs. Paula, it was extraordinary to see that she is experiencing this, depression, so she could not hold back her tears of sadness," Sundari said.

Although she did not cry sobbingly, Paula still showed a deep expression of sadness in front of the National Commission on Violence Against Women team. "Even though she wasn't sobbing, there was still a feeling of sadness," added Sundari.

Sundari revealed that the National Commission on Violence Against Women will provide psychological support to Paula to help restore her mental condition. According to her, psychological wounds from violence do not easily disappear, even after the incident has passed.

"Even though that is in the past, we know that while physical marks may have faded, like bruises or others, the psychological impact usually remains if it is not treated, repaired, or healed," she explained.

They will also encourage Paula to seek services from professionals such as psychiatrists and psychologists so that the trauma she has experienced can be handled appropriately.

"We will encourage Mrs. Paula to provide referrals, to receive services, what we mean by services like psychiatrists, psychologists to ultimately reduce or hopefully resolve such psychological issues," said Sundari.

The National Commission on Violence Against Women takes Paula's condition seriously. They strive to view it from the victim's perspective, especially the traumatic impacts that often are not visibly apparent.

"If we look at it from a psychological or internal perspective, it cannot be seen, yes, the experts will assess that later. Then conduct research and studies like that," Sundari said.

The National Commission on Violence Against Women (Komnas Perempuan) will soon follow up on Paula's complaint through a clarification process and an in-depth study to assess the extent of the reported violence's impact. "In accordance with our mandate, Komnas Perempuan is about protection," emphasized Sundari.
