Kapanlagi.com - The South Jakarta Metro Police continue to investigate the circulation of counterfeit money that ensnared former artist Sekar Arum Widara. In addition to seizing evidence of counterfeit money amounting to hundreds of millions of rupiah, the police are also investigating the possibility of syndicate involvement in this case.
“Yes, we clearly need to delve deeper, to identify the perpetrators, and if proven, we must take firm action of course,” said Kompol Nurma Dewi when met at the South Jakarta Metro Police, Monday (14/4/2025).
Sekar was arrested after being caught transacting with counterfeit money at a mall in the Kemang area, South Jakarta. During the search, the police found counterfeit money amounting to Rp223.5 million in Rp100 thousand denominations in her boarding house.
The police suspect that Sekar did not act alone in carrying out her actions. Therefore, the investigation has been expanded to trace the source of the counterfeit money's production.
“This is still being investigated, of course, where it came from, what the printing process was, the printing machine, that is still being investigated,” explained Nurma.
Not only examining Sekar, the police also interrogated a man with the initials DA who claimed to be Sekar's unofficial husband. However, according to his statement, DA did not know that the money used was counterfeit.
“For now, in his statement, he does not know,” said Nurma.
Nevertheless, the involvement of DA and other parties is still being investigated further by the investigators. This case opens up the possibility of an organized network behind the circulation of counterfeit money.
The police have designated Sekar as a suspect since April 4, 2025, and have detained her at the South Jakarta Metro Police's Vehicle Unit.
This case will be charged under the Currency Law as well as articles 244 and 245 of the Criminal Code, which threaten offenders with a prison sentence of up to 15 years.
