Chronology of Sekar Arum Widara Distributing Counterfeit Money in Mal Kemang

Former artist Sekar Arum Widara has officially been named a suspect by the South Jakarta Metro Police in a counterfeit money circulation case. She was apprehended after being caught multiple times attempting to transact using counterfeit money at a mall in the Kemang area, South Jakarta.

"On April 2, 2025, she came to a mall within the jurisdiction of the South Jakarta Police. Then she made a transaction to buy food and drinks, and it was successful," said Kompol Nurma Dewi when met at the South Jakarta Metro Police, Monday (14/4/2025).

After successfully making her first purchase, Sekar tried to shop for food and drinks again at the same store. However, the cashier was more vigilant at that time and checked the money received with a UV light detection machine.

"After that, she went shopping again and made a payment that aroused suspicion from both cashiers, who then canceled the transaction," Nurma continued.

Not stopping there, Sekar continued her efforts in another store in the mall. This time she tried to buy household appliances with a total payment of more than Rp1 million, but the transaction was canceled again because the cashier detected counterfeit money.

"The transaction took place at a shopping center. After that, she bought the largest household appliances and made a payment of over Rp1 million. However, it was successful, then canceled," Nurma explained.

The cashier then reported the incident to the mall security. Sekar was immediately secured and taken to the Mampang Police Station before finally being handed over to the South Jakarta Metro Police.

"For the clear report from the security who reported to Bimas Bangka, Mampang, from the Mampang Police, then reported to the South Jakarta Metro Police for further action," said Nurma.

The police then searched Sekar's residence and confiscated 2,235 sheets of counterfeit money in denominations of Rp100 thousand worth Rp223.5 million. Until now, investigators are still tracing whether the money was produced independently or came from a syndicate.

Sekar Arum Widara is now detained and charged under the Currency Law as well as articles 244 and 245 of the Criminal Code with a threat of up to 15 years in prison.
